Such a Pity :(
For little me - certainly one of the greatest mainstream Rock poets, for sure -
if not the greatest that Yugoslavia and it’s later “solo” countries have had.
Why?
Well, he touched us with such a surgeon precision because his songs were So Sad and emotional.
And he touched us with his spoken jokes and his funny songs.
Both - often till the Tears! Happy or Sad ones...
That’s if you have a heart and you are emotional - human.
You can call it even, some parts of his work at least, maybe Naive Rock Art – similar to the painters of Croatian Naive Art. To that conclusion I have come me myself only few years ago…
Or you can call it whatever way you want to call it...
Boy - that Man was Special.
Been on two of his concerts, Pula & Zagreb. Long ago. After Yugoslavia ended.
My mentor, in the broad sense of meaning, of what human is capable of achieving.
I have a limited general knowledge that is for sure but…
He might not have been a Saint, maybe too, rare ones of us are but…
In the end...Naposletku...
The number of his Youtube channel subscribers will tell you how big impact he had on the scene.
Have in mind, mostly I would say, the number of people in ex Yugoslavia and the number of it’s emigrants in the World…
Now, if you haven’t, see for yourself that he even didn’t have the “like / dislike” option - on Youtube!?
He was such a piece of “special sample”! :’)
If he would have been performing on English language and have had similar impact in the World like he had in ex Yugoslavia area, that would be an astonishing number of followers and fans.
Nothing pushy to the fore, to be frank, I would say...but present.
Great art doesn’t need to be pushy.
Sadly, he is no more. But the memories and the songs will remain…
Listen at least “Provincijalka”, to me one of the greatest Rock Love ballads I’ve ever heard...
He could have been living for many years to come…but sadly no...
I will end this brief remembering with his verse about himself, from his less known prewar song from the year 1987 - “1987”
“otpev'o je i on svoje - gotovo, gotovo je…”
“he too had sung his own - it's over, it's over”
